LPCT Adopts Resolution Opposing Warrantless Mass Surveillance and Flock Cameras

On August 25, 2026, the State Central Committee of the Libertarian Party of Connecticut adopted a resolution opposing warrantless mass surveillance and the use of automated license plate reader networks, including systems operated through private vendors.

The resolution raises concerns about the growing use of Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs) and related surveillance networks that can continuously collect, centralize, retain, and share information about the movements of people traveling on public roads.

The LPCT recognizes the right of individuals and private entities to record in public spaces. The resolution distinguishes that activity from government collection and centralized aggregation of location data, which it identifies as a threat to privacy, free association, and the presumption of innocence.

Under the adopted resolution, the Libertarian Party of Connecticut:

• Condemns government deployment of mass-surveillance technologies that collect and retain information about individuals' movements and activities without a warrant.
• Calls on candidates for Governor and the Connecticut General Assembly to clearly state their positions on ALPRs and related surveillance networks.
• Calls on federal, state, municipal, and other government entities to purge data already collected through such systems.
• Calls on government entities operating within Connecticut to terminate—and refrain from entering into—contracts, data-sharing agreements, and other arrangements facilitating warrantless mass surveillance.

The Libertarian Party of Connecticut remains committed to individual liberty, local sovereignty, privacy, and limiting government surveillance of people who are not suspected of wrongdoing.
